Spill The Milk, Spill The Metis: M — N Associates joins RMIT for a playfully serious conversation on branding

M — N Associates recently returned to RMIT Vietnam as part of Spill the Milk – Spill the Metis creative talk, offering School of Design & Communications’ students an inside look into the creative process behind Metis of VitaDairy’s latest milk brand created for the pre-teen generation.

Positioned between childhood and adolescence, Metis was built to speak to pre-teens without talking down to them or pushing them too quickly toward maturity. In response, M — N Associates developed a system rooted in “controlled unpredictability”, playful, instinctive, and slightly irreverent, yet intentional throughout.

At the center of the identity is Vitrô, a Gen Alpha mascot first explored through AI-generated sketches — a deliberate starting point that reflects the digital-native generation the brand was designed for. Rather than a shortcut, the studio approached AI as part of a broader exploratory creative process.

The session also unpacked how the Metis identity was translated across packaging and the broader brand system — from expressive layouts and playful visual interruptions to the integration of custom typography and character-led storytelling. Together, these elements formed a cohesive yet unpredictable design language tailored to the energy and behaviors of Gen Alpha audiences.

Throughout the talk, students were offered a candid perspective on how M — N Associates approaches the intersection of strategy, packaging, character design, and emerging technologies within contemporary branding practice. More than a single case study, Metis was framed as a reflection of a broader shift in brand-building — one where system thinking, cultural relevance, and a sense of joy coexist within the same visual ecosystem.

The session drew a full audience of RMIT students and emerging creatives, turning the lecture hall into an open discussion around branding, packaging systems, and contemporary creative practice.
